About Meitnerium

An artificially produced and very radioactive metal, meitnerium was discovered in the early 1980s by a group of chemical scientists from Germany. It was named after an Austrian nuclear physicist Lise Meitner. This element is possible to receive as a result of a nuclear reaction between bismuth and iron, but the scientists have ever managed to obtain only a few atoms of this element. Thus, meitnerium can only be used for research and studies, due to extreme difficulties in its production.
